Fool's Gold

I was digging through old documents, hoping I'd saved the information I stuck in all of those boxes on MySpace before I deleted my account (sadly, no) and discovered gold!

Well, not really gold, but something pretty close.

I found my old To-Do-before-I-die List! So, as a special Friday the 13th gift, I'm going to post an extra blog this week detailing my list and (maybe) why I chose to put each item on the list. So, here it is, for your reading pleasure! (Comments will be made in this pretty pink-ish red color!

To-Do-Before-I-Die List (from around Aug 2008, so I guess not all that old, but it seemed like it, since I made it at the end of high school and that seems like forever ago...)

1. Go to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, France, London, and New Zealand (sightsee). (I've always wanted to go to New York because it seems so exotic! Plus, one time in Girl Scouts we went to Washington DC, we rode the Metro a few times, and, I swear, those were the most exciting moments of my life [shows you how awesome my life is...]. The others are kind of second best. Really, if I could only go two places, they would be New York and London [such adorable accents!].)

2. See a Broadway play. (I wanted to see Legally Blonde: The Musical but, of course, they stopped showing it. I'll just have to pick a good one that's playing when I go. [Notice the when.])

3. Learn French (fluently). (Not so much anymore. French is difficult. And I feel like a loser when I attempt to speak it. So, maybe another language...)

4. Go back to Biltmore Estates and walk through the house again. (Oh, my gosh, the coolest house I've been in. Unfortunately, my stomach started hurting really badly and we had to leave. It was amazing, though. You should all check it out.)

5. Buy the painting of Biltmore Estates from the store on St. George Street. (It was so cool. Maybe even cooler than the house. But only maybe. It was painted as if it was "in its day" with people dressed up really fancy and walking up to the house, which was brightly lit. I don't generally like the word beautiful--it's kind of generic and makes me nauseous--but that painting was beautiful. It made me jealous. It was around $2,000. Yeah.)

6. Sing a song in public - talent shows in school don't count. (I bet you didn't know I sang in the tenth grade talent show, did you? It sucked. At least, Schmichael Schmenderson said it did. But I never liked him, anyway. I wonder if I should change his name to protect the innocent. I'll decide later.)

7. Write a book and have it published. (This is so going to happen! It's going to be a #1 national bestseller, too. Or, at least it's going to be on the list.)

8. Fall in love... (This feels like it could happen all too easily...)

9. ...with the right guy. (This, however, may never happen.)

10. Skydive. (Yes. I want to go skydiving. I'll probably have to fast the day before, but it...might...happen. Let's hope my courage doesn't fail me.)

11. Go bungee jumping. (I've already done this! If a fair counts. Which I don't think it does. But for the purpose of conserving time, if I never go actual bungee jumping, this will count. It was really fun.)

14. Be wealthy - hopefully with a job I like. (Yup, with that book I mentioned earlier. Pray for me?)

16. Win the lottery (any lottery, can also be to win a sweepstakes of any kind). (I did win a sweepstakes! I won a free copy of Meg Cabot's Insatiable! She mentioned me in her blog and everything! Here's the link: My Meg Cabot Mention. It's about 1/3 of the way down under the big picture of the box of her books. I was mondo excited.)

17. Know a guy with a British/Australian accent (be a friend with). (Did I mention their adorable accents? Just check out a Leon Jackson interview. So hot... But he's Scottish. So add Scottish to that list.)

18. Learn how to play the guitar and/or piano or some other instrument (can play multiple songs with). (Sadly, I probably don't have the motivation for this. Which predicts bad things for number's 7 & 14...)

19. Invent something useful (need not be patented or mass produced). (I've already had a few ideas, I just haven't brought my visions to life. And now I can't think of any. Must start a new list...)

So, there you go! And here is your formal invitation to create a list of your own! Just post it in a comment below. Please, I really want to know what everyone else deems important enough to put on their To-Do-before-I-die Lists. Oh, and I did decide to change Schmichael's name. I sure hope no one guesses his real name...

I'm sure you noticed the numbers don't follow sequentially. Don't ask me, I just wrote it...

No, seriously, I have absolutely no idea. Maybe I took a couple of things off? Because I did them? Dunno. But they're gone now!

To finish out my post, I'm going to try this video thing again and put up one of the songs I listened to while writing this. Enjoy!

And now, as I edit, I'm listening to "Something Beautiful" by NeedToBreathe. Amazing!

You know what? Here's a link to my playlist. Heather's Youtube Favorites. Should show up as the "Favorites" playlist. Tell me if it works?

  1. It'd be a shame for you to give up learning French simply because it's difficult. But if you do, perhaps you could take up Japanese and drop by my blog more, heh.

I can really appreciated the desire to write a book. That's been one of my big dreams for a while now. I'm actually working on a story now, albeit at a slow pace. Instead of worrying about what other people think about my writing, I've decided to simply write and enjoy myself - hopefully if someone ever reads it they will feel that same enjoyment.

Falling in love is something I'm beginning to doubt will ever happen. It's been a long time since I felt anything close to love. Quite sad to admit.

Ah, piano. I finally got started on that, for I had the same desire. It's actually not that bad. Just find songs you like and start figuring them out - don't worry so much about learning "by the book," because the book will leave you bored and unmotivated.

My personal list is quite simple. Write a book (and then continue writing books), go to a bookstore in Japan, and eventually find someone I care about. I don't care about money or fame, only in finding my place in the world and enjoying life.

Also, I vaguely remember you in the talent show. Leave it to "Schmichael" to say something so rude. You've always been a cool cat in my book, and I admire your courage.

  2. I know it would be, but you haven't heard me try to say it. Not only do I not sound French, I probably don't sound human... Perhaps! I've been looking, I guess I've been looking at the wrong one...

That's a nice way to look at it. I think I do that, it's in the editing that I try to please people because I really stink at editing my own work, so I always ask someone else's opinion. Meg Cabot says to think of it as "I only have to write a page today," then you'll have a book in like six or so months or something like that. It was really cool.

Don't give up hope! I believe it'll happen for everyone. At least, I hope it will. I'm sad you haven't felt it, though. I'm sure it's nice.

Actually, the book leaves me aggravated and insecure. But, yeah, I see where you're coming from. And that sounds like a great idea.

Ah, such a better list than mine! I always hear people say "all I want is be happy, I don't need all these things of the world" and I feel pathetic. And materialistic. I'll have to work on that. But anyway, I like your list.It sounds slightly perfect.

I know, right? The nerve of that kid... Well, thanks. You were definitely pretty cool, too. But wait, you still are!
