An indulgence of my nostalgia.

I think I want to apologize before you read any of this. You can't see it yet, but there are so many memes down below. To all who were born in the wrong dec--I mean, anyone who was not born in the 90's, I'm sorry. That you weren't born in the 90's--I mean, that you may not relate to all of this content, but also for the lack of representation of other decades. But I don't have a lot of experience growing up in other decades. So. Disclaimer over.

Nostalgia has a strange power. It makes you remember with fondness that which you never really cared about. I thought about this when looking at our "nametag graveyard." There is a lot of turnover at my job and there are many people that those who are there now have never heard of. We still have the nametags, I guess because they cost money, and why throw away things like that? Every once in a while, someone will forget their own and borrow that of a past employee. And I think of that person, even though sometimes all I ever knew about that person was their name, and it's nice.

It's kind of ridiculous.

I've always considered memories in this weird, reverent way, like simply because it doesn't exist anymore, it has value. The sparkly blue shoes I mentioned last time, a Coca-Cola rain jacket and the coolest frog t-shirt I lost along the way. Of course, I must have loved those things while I had them, or maybe not, since clearly I got rid of them. But thinking about them now makes me long for them. Maybe what I long for is the time that I had them.

The 90's is having a comeback in a big, big way. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it. The Backstreet Boys will always have a place in my iTunes, and now I can see them in Las Vegas if I wanted to. Apparently, All That is coming back, too. Of course, it can't be the same without Amanda and Penelope, and TV isn't quite as good as it used to be, anyway. Objectively, of course. Maybe not. I was scrolling through Facebook maybe a year ago, and I found this picture that seems to explain this phenomenon:

Very interesting. While searching for this picture again, I went through a ton of "90's kids memes," which, if you don't know me, I certainly fit this description. Cue the nostalgia. I'll put a couple more here, for all the other 90's kids that read this.

Something you might notice about most everything in these pictures? They no longer exist. For that reason, I was excited to remember them, and I wanted them back. Of course, this isn't really exclusive to kids born in the 90's; all decades have their nostalgia. Why are the 90's having this comeback? Maybe because 90's kids are finally the decision-makers. We buy things, and we make things, so we have a big influence on the market. I am totally on board. Though, I think 90's fashion should probably stay in the past.
