Distracted by the Noise

It's been almost exactly three years since I gave the last 10 facts, so I forgive you if you've forgotten them. This is the first post I made in this series, and this is the second. Riveting stuff.

Honestly, I'm posting this because I've decided that I want to put more thought into these posts. I want them to represent what I actually think instead of what I write in the moment because the first fact:

21. I don't usually edit my own writing. I proofread it, of course, because you have to. Credibility is a fragile thing and is shot to death by typos and incorrect spelling.

And I want to write on more meaningful topics, which means I really need to consider what I say and research. Not that I've never done research on one of these before. But I'm going to try to take the time between posts to research and contemplate and edit and maybe change my mind. What I want to write is too important to discuss flippantly. So, here's the next nine facts about me:

22. I miss school. I miss learning. Now any learning I do is by accident or I have to seek it out. I'm not great at seeking it out.

23. My favorite television show of all time is Friends. I guess I'm not alone in this because it's one of the most popular shows out there. I quote the show all the time, usually to people I know will get it, but sometimes I can't stop myself. If I ever say something you don't understand, the chances are pretty good one of the friends said it.

24. I like for things to be multi-functional. I don't generally buy things if I can't use them; most of my decor was a gift or accidental. I have a Hulk figure on my TV table from a subscription box I cancelled. My wall art has been done (mostly) by friends and family. A set of shelves in my living room doubles as storage for my mugs and an aesthetically pleasing wall display.

25. I love making things. I enjoy sewing most of all. I'm appreciative of my ability to take something I never wear and make it my new favorite piece simply by adding some extra fabric or hemming it in a creative way. I want to try embroidery next.

26. I have a hard time letting things go. This is contradicted by the fact that

27. I also have this neurotic need to get rid of things I feel I have too much of, or that I've had for too long. My sister likes to buy snacks but not eat them, and it's driving me crazy that they're sitting there in the cupboard, not being eaten, so, even though I don't want them and have, in fact, purchased my own snack food, I'm eating them. Just so they aren't in the cupboard anymore. Maybe that has more to do with my difficulty letting things go than I thought. If I could let it go, I might throw them away instead.

28. Turning 30 never scared me until I came pretty close to doing it. Somehow it seems like the threshold of adulthood and I haven't reached the milestones you're supposed to have reached by then. Who made them up? I don't know. But they seem pretty important.

29. I taught myself to crochet using YouTube. You can learn a lot of cool things on YouTube. As inane as that might sound.

30. My dream house has a spiral staircase. Is there anything cooler than a spiral staircase?

What about you?

I'm having some trouble letting go. Secret hidden fact: I don't trust easily.
